The 3 things you SHOULD know about fuel contamination!

Marine Fuel Drains

If it turns out you've got the wrong fuel, or perhaps contaminated fuel (most commonly water contamination or degraded fuel) in a boat we can help you clean it out. As long as the boat is either on land, or situated near enough to a car parking bay we should be able to reach the storage and remove the contaminated fuel. We've undertaken numerous fuel drains at marinas and boatyards in the uk.

AdBlue In Your Diesel

All over Oxfordshire we have discovered a growing number of examples of AdBlue contamination whereby a driver has poured AdBlue straight into their diesel tank. This is to a certain extent thanks to people not being aware of the right way to use it (pay attention: it is not a fuel additive), and in part simply because the inlets for diesel and AdBlue are normally right close to each other on the automobile.

Now, what's the trouble with having AdBlue in a diesel car?

Since the product is predominantly deionised water, it's just like pouring water in your tank. Diesel and water tend not to mix in any way and trying to run a diesel car on water cannot work. Apart from this, the urea is fairly corrosive to your fuel system lines and seals and is susceptible to crystallisation, damaging injectors and fuel filters. If perhaps you have put AdBlue in your fuel tank remove it asap. And certainly don't turn over the engine - not even to relocate it to a parking area. In cases where you did start the vehicle you may in all probability have to have the full fuel system cleaned and filters replaced.

In case you discover yourself to be in this position don’t fret or panic! Contact us, the UK’s Best fuel contamination business. Our technicians have the practical knowledge and experience to have you back on your way rapidly and efficiently, without mess or hassle.

How to find out if I put the wrong fuel in my car?

If you’ve just filled up at a petrol station and the cars starts to act a bit strange you might start to wonder if you accidentally put the wrong fuel in it.

Well, there are a few things to can check that will be able to tell you:

  1. How is the car responding? There are some very common misfuel symptoms which can be a good indicator of wrong fuel:
    • Loss of engine power – can feel like the car has run out of fuel
    • A lot of smoke (more than usual)
    • Engine coughing or starting to splutter
    • Won’t start – or keeps stalling.
  2. Look at your fuel receipt. It will state clearly if you filled up with diesel or unleaded. If you don’t have the receipt, you can often return to the petrol station where you filled up and give them the date and time (and pump) where you refueled and they will often be able to give you a VAT receipt.
  3. Smell it. Diesel and petrol have very distinctly different smells. Anyone familiar with the motor industry should be able to help you with this. Or you could even get another car to park alongside and smell the fuel caps of both, comparing them to determine what the fuel type is.
